同其他人唔同,我想讲嘅并唔係故事,而係我嘅一啲睇法
Tung4 kei4 taa1 jan4 m4 tung4, ngo5 soeng2 gong2 ge3 bing6 m4 hai6 gu3 si6, ji4 hai6 ngo5 ge3 jat1 di1 tai2 faat3.
Unlike others, what I would like to talk about are not stories, but my opinion.
自从 1955 年推广普通话运动开始
Since the advocative movement to popularize Mandarin in 1955
全国嘅地方、教育啦,都係以普通话进行嘅
the entire country (and) the educational system are being conducted in Mandarin.
而因为咁呢,亦都好多小朋友,失去咗对自己母语嘅掌握同埋重视
As a result, many children have lost the mastery and the emphasis of their own mother tongue.
而都有好多人,因为自己净係讲普通话,而忽视咗
There are also many people, who only speak in Mandarin themselves, have neglected
对其它语言或方言嘅尊重,咁样係好可惜嘅
the respect for other languages or dialects. This is very regrettable.
咁以我为例呢,我喺香港长大,大概係 7 至 8 岁入小学嘅时候咧
In my case, I grew up in Hong Kong; around 7 or 8 years old when I entered primary school,
就开始学讲普通话,咁,喺大概 17 至 18 岁嘅时候呢
I started to learn to speak Mandarin. Then, around 17 to 18 years old
因緣際會亦都开始学一滴上海话,咁啦另外就
due to a fortunate opportunity, I also began to learn a little Shanghainese. In addition
由细到大嘅教育都係有英文啦,同埋屋企人有时间中都会同我讲法文嘅
Growing up, my education involved English, and my family sometimes spoke French at home.
但系主要我都係讲粤语广州话为主
but mainly, I still speak Yue-yu/Guangzhou-hua (Cantonese) primarily
咁亦都喺成长嘅过程中咧,都知道有一滴其它唔同嘅方言嘅存在
Furthermore, in my developmental stages, I am aware of the existence of some other different dialects.
咁但係就觉得咧,大家应该係要彼此互相尊重同包容,而唔係一味觉得
Therefore I think, everyone should mutually respect and tolerate each other; and not invariably think
自己嘅语言或者方言係大哂,而对其它语言或者方言係失去咗尊重
their own language or dialect is superior, thus, loose respect toward other language or dialect
咁好似有好多以普通话为母语嘅人咧,又喺上海咧都係唔係咁尊重一滴讲上海话嘅人嘅
Similar to many people whose mother tongue is in Mandarin, in Shanghai, are not so respectful toward some Shanghainese speakers.
而讲上海话嘅人咧,自己亦都冇一个母语嘅意识去捍卫自己嘅母语
And the Shanghainese speakers themselves do not have a mother tongue consciousness to defend their own mother tongue as well.
咁亦都更加缺乏就係一个,吴语地区包括係:苏州话,杭州话,上海话
Moreover there is a severe lack of a Wu-yu area including: Suzhou-hua, Hangzhou-hua, Shanghai-hua
常州话等等嘅一个「共同嘅共识
Changzhou-hua etc. "joint consensus
咁大家去凝聚力」,咁哩个係稍微缺乏。所以我觉得,哩个係比较可惜嘅
to congregate collectively." this is a bit lacking. So I feel, this is somewhat a pity.

是的,普通话是很重要,但是各地的方言也很重要,这些文化瑰宝不能丢。
