我上年就来咗西雅图嘅呢个华盛顿大学读书

华盛顿大学呢就系个好地方啦呢度有湖景啊仲有樱花睇咁样

唔知系咪因为我地学校扩招呢定系因为中国人本身就越来越中意出国读书

依家我真系喺学校周街都可以见到有中国人但系大部分嘅中国人呢佢都系唔识讲粤语嘅

不过好彩喺唐人街嗰边嘅情况仲稍为好啲基本上呢嗰边好多店嘅老板啊同埋伙计啊都系识讲粤语嘅

记得有一次我同我班呃…… 其它地方来嘅中国同学去唐人街嗰边打煸炉

跟住个服务员就俾咗份菜单俾我地睇然后我就发现呢份菜单上面有好多词其实都系粤语词来嘅

比如咩猪润、猪红、猪腰之类嘅所以我班同学仲要睇返英文先知佢系咩意思

不过我都发现呢度好多广东人都或多或少咁样学咗一口唔咸唔淡嘅普通话

基本上佢地同其他人用普通话交流都系无咩好大问题嘅

嗯…… 所以我都可以睇得出呢普通话喺海外嘅地位的确系越来越高而且仲似乎逐渐咁取代紧广州话喺海外嘅地位

华盛顿大学呢就是个好地方啦这里有湖景还有樱花看这样

不知道是不是因为我们学校扩招呢还是因为中国人本身就越来越喜欢出国读书

现在我真的是在学校满大街都可以见到有中国人但是大部分的中国人都不会说粤语

不过幸好在唐人街那边情况还稍微好一点基本上呢那边很多店铺的老板啊还有伙计啊都会说粤语

记得有一次我跟我那些其它地方来的中国同学去唐人街那边打火锅

接着有个服务员就给了份菜单给我们看然后我就发现这份菜单上有很多词其实都是粤语词来的

比如什么猪润（猪肝）、猪红（猪血）、猪腰（猪肾）之类的所以我的同学还要看英语才知道它们是什么意思

不过我也发现这里很多广东人都或多或少地学了一口带有口音的普通话

基本上他们跟其他人用普通话交流都没有什么大问题

嗯…… 所以我也可以看得出来普通话在海外的地位的确是越来越高而且还似乎逐渐地在取代广州话在海外的地位

Last year I came to Seattle and have been studying at the University of Washington.

University of Washington is a good place (to visit). There are lakes and cherry blossoms to appreciate.

I dont know whether it is because our university extends its enrollment or Chinese people becomes keener and keener to study abroad

Now we can see many Chinese people around campus, but most of them cant speak Cantonese.

However, luckily the situation in Chinatown is a little bit better. Many shopkeepers and shop assistants there are able to speak Cantonese.

I remember one time I went with my Chinese schoolmates from other areas to Chinatown for hotpot.

Then a waiter gave us a menu, and I found there were many Cantonese vocabularies in the menu

such as pork liver, pork blood, pork kidney, and so on. So, my schoolmates could just understand what they are by reading their English translations.

However, I have also found that many Cantonese people there have more or less learned Mandarin with some accent.

Basically they can communicate with others in Mandarin without significant barrier.

Hmm... Thus, I can also see that the overseas position of Mandarin is certainly rising and rising. It seems Mandarin is also replacing the overseas position of Cantonese.

Join Hong Kong Student Association at UW! They have hangouts and stuff where you can practice and teach others Cantonese.

Also, a lot of students at the UW are foreign exchange students from China, therefore, many of them speak Mandarin. The majority of Cantonese speakers, at least in my experience, tend to be recent immigrants from Guangdong or of Vietnamese descent. I think it is because many Chinese parents prefer to have their children speak Mandarin, so the ability to speak Cantonese is lost.

其实普通话几实用同其他地区O既人交流。一开始好多广东人去左海外打工所以粤语系海外多人用，至于地位如何，唔知喔。唔使咁伤感，不过我都明系第个地方听到家乡话会超兴奋开心
