Terms of Use

By using this site, you agree to transfer the rights for all content you send to us or create on the site -- including but not limited to transcriptions, translations, comments and recordings -- to Phonemica.

Does that sound possessive? Sorry. We'll explain why, below. But first, let's balance things out a bit:

All content on Phonemica -- including recordings, transcriptions, comments, blogposts -- is made available for public use under a Creative Commons copyright license: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike CC BY-NC-SA.

So why do we need you to transfer rights to us, if we're just going to make the content freely available? Because we're not lawyers and we can't afford them. If someday we put together a book or CD, and put it on sale to support the site, we can't run the risk of legal action. So it's a lot cleaner if we have ownership and then permit other people to use the content.

If you're a lawyer who specializes in this sort of thing and would like to donate your time to help us come up with a better solution, we'd be happy to hear from you.
